The Pinckneyville Utility Department maintains and operates a municipally owned natural gas distribution system, two water treatment plants and water distribution system, two sewer treatment plants and a sewer collection system.

The utility systems are permitted and regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency, the Commerce Commission and the Department of Transportation. City Ordinances detail the operation basics of the City's utility systems.  Strict compliance of these laws and regulations provide safe and dependable utility service to our community.

Employee training and public awareness is a high priority for the Utility Department due to the Commerce Commission's natural gas Operator Qualification requirements, Department of Transportation and Commerce Commission regulations, and the EPA water and sewer system requirements and regulations.

The City of Pinckneyville is a member of the Interstate Municipal Gas Agency, a group of municipal-owned gas distribution systems, which through joint action, work together to provide a stable and reliable gas supply at reasonable cost to Pinckneyville's natural gas customers.
